BRUMMIES 54 GLASGOW 40

Wednesday April 28, 2010
BIRMINGHAM maintained their 100 per cent record at Perry Barr this season by taking all three points from Glasgow on an eventful night.

The BRC Roofing Brummies suffered an unusual setback when they conceded a 5-1 in the first race, but they quickly hit back to establish a lead thanks to maximum advantages of their own in the next two heats.

Visiting No.1 Travis McGowan was in blistering form, winning four of his five rides, and Lee Dicken lowered the colours of both Jason Lyons and Steve Johnston, but the Brummies gradually pulled clear by mid-meeting.

McGowan took a tactical ride in Heat 11 but it turned out to be his only defeat of the night as Lyons superbly took the win, and a double-points effort by Josh Grajczonek in the next race was repelled by Chris Kerr.

The meeting as a whole had little flow due to a succession of re-runs caused by movement at the start, and Tigers rider James Grieves was eventually penalised 15 metres in Heat 9 after trying the patience of referee Christina Turnbull once too often.

Johnston and Lyons both passed Grieves in Heat 13 as the Tigers threatened to challenge for a point, and another Brummies maximum haul was secured by Richard Sweetman with a fine ride to defeat Grajczonek in Heat 14.

BIRMINGHAM 54: Justin Sedgmen 12+1, Chris Kerr 11+2, Richard Sweetman 11+2, Jason Lyons 9+1, Steve Johnston 7, Jake Anderson 2+1, Aaron Summers 2

GLASGOW 40: Travis McGowan 16, Josh Grajczonek 9, Lee Dicken 7+1, James Grieves 4, Jamie Courtney 3+2, Mitchell Davey 1, Robert Ksiezak R/R
