ULRICH THE HERO AS BRUMMIES TRIUMPH AT STOKE

Sunday April 01, 2007
ULRICH Ostergaard turned in an inspired performance on Saturday evening at Loomer Road, as he romped to a full 15-point maximum which helped the Brummies to an excellent 46-44 Premier Trophy away win at Stoke Potters.

Birmingham led by just two points going into the final race of the night, but Ostergaard held his nerve when the tapes rose and raced to a win ahead of Stoke pair Garry Stead and Rusty Harrison. The ensuing 3-3 shared race was enough to give the Brummies their first away win in their debut season back in British Speedway racing.

Birmingham provided twelve of the fifteen race winners in a good all-round team performance. As well as Ostergaard’s full-house, Jason Lyons scored an impressive 11 points and Emiliano Sanchez, Brent Werner and Lee Smart all chipped in with a vital five-points apiece.

For the Potters Stead and Jack Hargreaves top scored with 10 (paid 11) and Barrie Evans was next best with 7 (paid 9).

Scorers:
STOKE: Garry Stead 10+1, Jack Hargreaves 10+1, Barrie Evans 7+2, Rusty Harrison 6+3, Ben Barker 6+1, Robbie Kessler 3+1, Paul Pickering 2

BRUMMIES: Ulrich Ostergaard 15, Jason Lyons 11, Emiliano Sanchez 5, Brent Werner 5, Lee Smart 5, Ben Powell 4, Aidan Collins 1
