BRUMMIES JUBILANT IN BANDIT COUNTRY

Saturday August 22, 2009
BIRMINGHAM kept up the pressure at the top of the Premier League table with a wonderful 48-42 win at Berwick on Saturday.

Popular Pole Tomasz Piszcz (PICTURED), who was a doubt for the northern tour, was simply superb with 14-points in a solid all-round team performance.

He helped the BRC Roofing Brummies get off to a perfect start with a maximum 5-1 alongside recent signing Rusty Harrison in the opening race.

But the Bandits slowly but surely pegged back Graham Drury’s men and with six races to go the scores were locked at 27-27.

Swedish star Ludvig Lindgren when pulled off two vital race wins to set up a winning finish for the Perry Barr side.

He was a natural pick for the nominated riders’ race, Heat 15, but he trailed in last with Piszcz winning – so Birmingham had to settle for three Premier League points for winning by six instead of four for a bigger success.

Sadly Lindgren will be missing from the final leg of the tour at Glasgow on Sunday afternoon as he is required for an FIM event. Birmingham will operate the rider replacement facility.

BERWICK: Tero Aarnio 13+1, Michal Makovsky 13, Stan Burza 6+1, Paul Clews 5+1, Jason King 3, Frank Facher 1+1, Guglielmo Franchetti 1.
BRUMMIES: Tomasz Piszcz 14, Ludvig Lindgren 7+1, Richard Sweetman 7+1, Lee Smart 6+1, Jason Lyons 6, Rusty Harrison 5+2, Jay Herne 3+1.
