LYONS ROARS TO MAX

Wednesday March 28, 2007
JASON Lyons romped to a full maximum to inspire the new Birmingham side to a 56-34 Premier Trophy win over Stoke at Perry Barr.

Lyons received solid support from his team-mates - but they had to do it without Emiliano Sanchez who was hurt at the weekend.

The track record went several times and Lyons is the new holder with a winning time of 59.1 seconds in his second outing.

Birmingham built up a big lead from the early stages and never looked back with some breathtaking action for another bumper crowd.

Aidan Collins and Powell have already carved out a reputation as favourites with the Perry Barr crowd with some all-action racing.

Ostergaard was brought in as a replacement for Sanchez in Heat 9 and teamed up with Lyons to breeze to a 5-1 with Stoke duo Robbie Kessler and Barrie Evans trailing a long way back. The match, as a contest, was all over.

And Stoke's hopes of reducing the deficit were blown altogether when Rusty Harrison trailed in last when nominated as a tacical ride.

Stoke enjoyed some respite from the Brummies onslaught when they were gifted a maximum in Heat 13 after Ostergaard shed a chain and team-mate Werner did well to avoid him.

Birmingham were always in control from the moment they took the lead ad on this form they are going to be hard to handle at Perry Barr.

BRUMMIES: Jason Lyons 15, Ulrich Ostergaard 12+3, Aidan Collins 10+2, Brent Werner 7+1, Ben Powell 7+1, Lee Smart 5+3, Jack Roberts 0.

STOKE: Ben Barker 9+1, Garry Stead 8, Robbie Kessler 5, Rusty Harrison 4+1, Paul Pickering 3, Barrie Evans 3, Jack Hargreaves 2.
