KING'S LYNN 66 BRUMMIES 24

Friday July 04, 2008
KING’S Lynn inflicted a quick-fire double over Birmingham courtesy of a 66-24 victory on Friday night at the Norfolk Arena.

The Stars beat the injury-ravaged midland side comfortably at Perry Barr on Wednesday evening and they made easy meat of them in the return fixture.

Unfortunately the Brummies injury jinx struck once again, with this time Craig Watson ruled out of the remainder of the meeting as a result of a knee injury when crashing in heat 4.

Birmingham did have at least have the consolation of seeing Kyle Legault make his long-awaited return from injury and, the Canadian celebrated his comeback by being joint top-scorer with 6 points along with Lee Smart and Darren Mallett.

As for the racing itself, the Stars took full-advantage of the visitors problems and stormed into a 32-point lead after nine races. In fact, the only points the Stars dropped in the opening nine heats was due to a Kevin Doolan exclusion in heat 1.

Legault did look as if he was set to halt the slide when comfortably leading heat 7, but he fell on the third lap and subsequently gifted Stars pair Rusty Harrison and John Oliver another 5-1.

The run of maximums was stopped when Legault split the Doolan and Shaun Tacey pairing in heat 10, and the Brummies travelling army did finally have something to cheer when guest James Brundle and Smart registered a 4-2 advantage in heat 11.

However, that was as good as it got and King’s Lynn stepped up another level in the closing races to register their biggest win of the season.

KING’S LYNN 66: Tomas Topinka 14+1, Simon Lambert 10+2, Kozza Smith 10, Rusty Harrsion 9+2, Kevin Doolan 9, Shaun Tacey 8+2, John Oliver 6+3

BIRMINGHAM 24: Lee Smart, 6+1, Kyle Legault 6, Darren Mallett 6, James Brundle 5+1, Adam Lowe 1, Craig Watson 0, Phil Morris R/R
