BRUMMIES 38 KING'S LYNN 54

Wednesday July 02, 2008
JAMES Birkinshaw was taken to hospital for scans on suspected internal injuries as the stand-in skipper became the latest victim of the BRC Brummies' atrocious misfortune.

Birkinshaw was clipped by King's Lynn's Kozza Smith at the start of the last lap of Heat 4 with both riders coming to grief heavily - but although Smith was able to walk away, Birkinshaw required extensive treatment on the track.

The meeting was delayed for over half an hour with Birkinshaw eventually accompanied to hospital by the track doctor, and the SCB medical advisor Dr Andrew Butler, who was present at the meeting, stepped in to enable racing to continue.

Birkinshaw's crash and injury cast a shadow over the meeting, but there was no argument about King's Lynn's win on the night, the Stars being sharper from the gate and they already held a 13-5 lead at the time of the incident.

Visiting No.1 Kevin Doolan romped to a 15-point maximum, equalling Jason Lyons' track record in the process, and there was an eye-catching display from youngster Simon Lambert too.

For the Brummies, Andre Compton proved to be a good stand-in for Lyons, and guest reserve Paul Clews also impressed with another battling display, but it was the Stars who had much more strength from top to bottom.

BRC BRUMMIES: Andre Compton 16+1, Paul Clews 10+1, Craig Watson 8+1, Chris Mills 2+1, James Birkinshaw 2, Lee Smart 0, Adam Roynon r/r.

KING'S LYNN: Kevin Doolan 15, Rusty Harrison 9, Simon Lambert 8+2, Shaun Tacey 6+1, Tomas Topinka 6+1, Kozza Smith 6+1, John Oliver 4+1.
