BAD BLOW FOR BRUMMIES

Thursday April 03, 2008
BIRMINGHAM are likely to be without big winter signing Kyle Legault for the rest of the season after a horror crash in their 50-36 Premier Trophy win over Rye House.

Legault has suffered a broken fibula after a Heat 6 spill and is due to have surgery today (Thursday).

And James Birkinshaw, another recent arrival at Perry Barr, was also a casualty of the accident as he failed to avoid his stricken team-mate as the crowd held their breath. He has suffered bruising to his ribs and shoulder.

Speaking in the early hours of this morning on his way back to his Yorkshire home, Birkinshaw said: "I could do nothing about it. Kyle had lost it coming out of the turn, I was following him and I couldn't go wide of him and couldn't switch inside. I feel beaten up."

Rye House also lost one of their riders early on with Luke Bowen suffering a hand injury on the third bend of Heat 5.

Thankfully, BRC Roofing Brummies reserves Jack Hargreaves and Lee Smart dug in to see their depleted side home in a meeting cut short by one race to meet the 10pm curfew.

BIRMINGHAM: Jack Hargreaves 13+2, Jason Lyons 12, Lee Smart 11+1, Adam Roynon 7+2, Phil Morris 5+2, Kyle Legault 2, James Birkinshaw 0.
RYE HOUSE: Chris Neath 13+1, Tommy Allen 7+1, Rob Mear 5+3, Stefan Ekberg 5, Danny Betson 5, Luke Bowen 1, Tai Woffinden R/R.

*A FURTHER bulletin will be issued by the Birmingham Speedway press office on this website as soon as any further information is available on Kyle. We will also update you with team news for the weekend trips to Rye House and Mildenhall.
