CRADLEY v BRUMMIES, PREVIEW

Sunday July 01, 2018
BIRMINGHAM boss Laurence Rogers is looking for an error free performance in Monday’s crucial derby with Cradley (7.30).

It’s a crunch clash at the top of the Northern National Trophy group with the Heathens currently two points ahead of the Brummies.

And with the Perry Barr men going into the fixture at Monmore Green on the back of their first league defeat at Eastbourne on Saturday, Rogers says there’d be no greater way to bounce back than by beating their fierce rivals.

“We were so close to getting at least a point out of Eastbourne on Saturday but we need to regroup pretty quickly and do everything we can to go to Cradley and get the win,” Rogers said.

“We know it won’t be easy because they’ve had some good results themselves and they’ve also fell fortunate that Mildenhall have had a couple of National League meetings called off which keeps Drew Kemp at reserve for this one and that’s a trump card for them.

“But we had that luxury with Leon for the first few months and we have to do everything we can to adapt to our new riding order pretty quickly.

“Hopefully our top four boys can continue their own runs of form and that should take a bit of pressure off the other three boys.

“I’m hoping for an error free performance and one that we can be encouraged by again overall.

“We’ve got meetings in hand on them and whatever happens at Monmore, our fate is still in our own hands.

“There have been some special derbies between the Brummies and the Heathens in recent times, but I think this could be up there with the best.”

The Edwards Plumbing Brummies will make a late decision on the fitness of reserve Layne Cupitt who missed Saturday’s meeting at Eastbourne with a hip problem.

CRADLEY: Danny Ayres, Bradley Andrews, Kyle Bickley, Jason Edwards, Alfie Bowtell, Drew Kemp, Chris Widman.

BIRMINGHAM: Tom Bacon, Callum Walker, James Shanes, Leon Flint, Danyon Hume, Arran Butcher, Layne Cupitt (if fit).
