MASON: "ALL'S WELL WITH BRUMMIES"

Friday May 25, 2018
BIRMINGHAM co-promoter David Mason says he was encouraged by all aspects of Wednesday’s Travel Plus National League opener against the Isle of Wight.

Not only did the Edwards Plumbing Brummies win 53-37, but they also had their highest number of junior supporters through the turnstiles since the club entered the National League in 2015.

Said Mason: “I left Perry Barr on Wednesday feeling highly encouraged by everything to be honest.

“Okay it ended on a bit of a sour note with a crash in the Midland Development League fixture, but the good news since is that Jamie Sealey’s leg injuries aren’t as bad as first feared and we wish him a speedy recovery.

“But apart from that Wednesday ran really smoothly and it was yet another good performance by the team in the end.

“They got caught out by the track in the first few, but they adapted quite quickly and came on strong as the meeting went on.

“We had much more of a pleasing crowd – but we’re still ramping up our promotional efforts behind the scenes to get lots more new adult supporters on the terraces.

“I think the most pleasing aspect of Wednesday though was how many people took advantage of our kids 11 and under for free offer.

“To see so many youngsters was brilliant and when we got them all on the centre green to have a race with Brummie Bear, it was great to see them all with a smile on their face and that’s what it’s all about.

“They’re our next generation of supporters and we want even more kids coming to Perry Barr.

“We’ve got a few school assemblies lined up and we’re going to be doing a big push for the summer holidays as well.

“So our message remains the same, we’re doing more bit by bit behind the scenes and we want our regular supporters to spread the word and bring some new faces with them as we begin to enter the main chunk of the season.”

The Edwards Plumbing Brummies head to Leicester to face Coventry on Sunday (May 27) before hosting the Bees at Perry Barr on Wednesday (May 30, 7.30).

Birmingham will operate rider replacement for Layne Cupitt on Sunday who is unavailable due to a prior family commitment. Callum Walker, Leon Flint and Arran Butcher are eligible to take his scheduled rides.
