MASON UP FOR THE CUP

Sunday May 06, 2018
BIRMINGHAM co-promoter David Mason reckons Wednesday's Knockout Cup clash with Mildenhall could be one of the fixtures of the season.

The Fen Tigers head to Perry Barr for the first leg in fine form, recently claiming huge away wins at both the Isle of Wight and Plymouth.

And with the Edwards Plumbing Brummies unbeaten in their opening three fixtures themselves, Mason believes it's a tough one to call.

"We're both strongly fancied to do well this season but it was Mildenhall who people had down as favourites to win trophies this year before the start of the season," Mason said.

"We're two teams who are built very similarly with a strong top three and then plenty of room for improvement with the potential lower down the team.

"We've both got some hugely talented, exciting riders as well and that's why I think it could be one of the meetings of the season.

"While we are confident we could still go to their place and get something if need be, we want to build up a nice advantage on Wednesday as much as we can.

"Ideally about 10-16 points would be nice, but we can't afford to give them a head start and need to hit them hard from the off.

"The Birmingham fans can play a huge part in Wednesday's meeting and we need them to turn out in good numbers and really rally the team on with plenty of vocal support.

"If they know people who have never been to speedway before, then this is a great opportunity to bring them along.

"So bring a friend, a relative, a neighbour or a colleague because it really is a fixture not to be missed!"

Admission is £13 adults, £12 concessions and students, £3 juniors (12-16), while kids 11 and under go FREE.

In the mean time, fans have the chance to win two tickets to Wednesday's meeting. Simply search for @brumspeedway on Twitter or Official Birmingham Speedway on Facebook, find the relevant post, then retweet or share before 9am on Tuesday (May 8) to be in with a chance of winning.
