MASON: "IT'S A TOUGH ONE TO CALL"

Sunday April 15, 2018
BIRMINGHAM co-promoter David Mason says he's struggling to predict who will qualify from this Wednesday's British Under-21 Semi-Final (7.30).

Perry Barr Stadium will welcome 16 of the country's brightest prospects who will all be focusing on a top seven finish to book their place in next month's final.

With three Edwards Plumbing Brummies riders in the field, Mason hopes Layne Cupitt, Leon Flint and Callum Walker can give the home fans something to cheer about.

But he knows they'll have to be at their best to make it through in what he describes as an ultra-competitive field.

"You’d expect the likes of Nathan Greaves and Jack Smith to be favourites," Mason said.

"They’ve raced at the highest level of British Speedway and they’re two super talented youngsters.

“With Jack as well it’s great that he’s in this particular semi-final because he was so, so popular at Birmingham after helping the club win the league in 2015 and 2016 and he’ll have plenty of support I’m sure.

“Then you’ve got a few other boys who’ve ridden in the Championship like Alfie Bowtell, Jack Thomas and Kyle Bickley and even the likes of Taylor Hampshire, who came on leaps and bounds in Birmingham colours last season, will be in the mix.

“But naturally we’re hoping that our three riders will be able to perform to the best of their ability and get into that top seven."

Children Under 16 will be admitted free of charge while other admission has been set at £12 adults and £11 for concessions and students.

As this is a national event, Birmingham Speedway Season Tickets will not be valid.

BRITISH UNDER-21 SEMI-FINAL LINE-UP:
