DANYON RETURNS FOR 2018

Thursday October 26, 2017
POPULAR racer Danyon Hume will be back with Birmingham for a third straight season in 2018.

The 21-year-old has now fully recovered from a broken arm and becomes the first signing under new owners David and Peter Mason.

After just two league appearances before injury struck in April, Hume will start next season on a 7.33 average – a figure which made him ‘a must have’ rider according to club bosses.

“It’s a no brainer really isn’t it?” David Mason said.

“It was a shame Danyon’s 2017 season was ended so early through injury, but prior to that he showed he’s more than capable of reaching double figures in the majority of his meetings.

“Even on an off night Danyon is normally good for at least seven points and we can only see him increasing his average by the end of next year.

“That’s the route we’re ideally looking to go down too – building a team of seven riders who will all build on and improve their starting averages.

“There’s still a lot of discussions to take place yet in regards to the rules for next season, but no matter what the points limit may be, Danyon was a must have rider for any team so we’re delighted to have him back.

“He’s a talented speedway rider, he’s a true professional both on and off the track and he’s a very popular individual at Birmingham too.”

Hume himself is also thrilled to have secured a return. He said: “I made it very clear where I wanted to be in the National League and I can’t thank David and Peter enough for making this happen.

“Because of what I’ve been through with the club and what they’ve done for me in my short career so far, Birmingham will always hold a special place in my heart and it means a lot to me to be back.

“I had a practice skid at Sittingbourne last weekend and it felt like I’d never even been off the bike which was a huge relief for me.

“I’ve been preparing for next season for a few months now and I can’t wait for March to roll around already.

“The new owners want to make their first season a memorable one for all the right reasons – and I want to play a big part in getting Birmingham back towards the top where they belong.”
