BELLE VUE 55 BRUMMIES 35

Friday August 18, 2017
BIRMINGHAM boss Graham Drury described Friday's 55-35 defeat at Belle Vue as a big learning curve for his side.

The Surestop Brummies were comfortably beaten by the National League leaders who maintained their unbeaten home record.

The Perry Barr men were unable to register any heat advantages and suffered a total of seven retirements due to a number of mechanical issues.

But with a hugely important away fixture at Buxton on Sunday (August 20, 3pm), Drury has challenged his team to work overtime on their equipment behind the scenes.

"We knew it was always going to be one huge task because nobody has got anywhere near Belle Vue at their place all season," Drury said.

"But what made it frustrating for us was the amount of times machinery let the lads down.

"You can be the best rider in the world, but if the bike isn't set-up right or if there's an issue that you're unable to rectify you've got no chance.

"So a few of the boys who aren't guesting elsewhere need to spend a bit of time in the workshop and make sure everything is spot on for when we go to Buxton.

"But as always, we look ahead to the next one and we try and take the positives with us.

"Tom Bacon came back from injury remarkably well and felt no ill effects.

"Jack Parkinson-Blackburn and Liam Carr were both involved in some spectacular racing.

"And it was nice to see Layne Cupitt go out and win his last race after having a tough old night in his other four rides.

"There's no disgrace in being beaten by this Belle Vue side and they're top of the league for a reason.

"Only one other side have gone to Belle Vue and scored more points than we managed to so we just need to use this as a learning curve and move forwards."

A full preview featuring all the team news ahead of Sunday's trip to Buxton will be issued on Saturday.
