Birmingham Brummies Speedway have issued the following statement regarding the signing of Liam Carr on behalf of team boss Graham Drury.

“First and foremost, we are delighted to welcome Liam to our club and we look forward to working with him during the rest of the season.

“We are fully aware that we sent social media into meltdown once again and the signing caused a bit of stir, upsetting particular fellow promoters from other clubs as well as supporters of certain other teams.

“With Berwick’s fixture against Ipswich rained off last week, it does indeed mean that Liam’s new average doesn’t now kick in until Sunday, May 7.

“This unfortunately means that he cannot now race in Saturday’s meeting at Stoke as originally planned and will now make his Birmingham debut in our home fixture against King’s Lynn next Wednesday (May 10).

“Regarding the questioned eligibility of the signing, Birmingham applied to Management Committee for permission to include Liam Carr in the National Development League in a bid to help the rider as his Championship average has decreased significantly, and this was agreed.”

A preview ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stoke will be issued later today.
