BIRMINGHAM have received a major boost after signing talented racer Liam Carr.

The 21-year-old comes in for injury victim Danyon Hume who is facing the rest of the season on the sidelines with a badly broken arm.

Carr, who is also riding for Berwick in the SGB Championship, will make his Surestop Brummies debut in Saturday's National League fixture at Stoke.

Team boss Graham Drury said: "We're still absolutely devastated for Danyon but from the team point of view we have to keep going.

"When we knew the extent of his injuries we knew we had to move pretty quickly as it would be very hard to replace Danyon's scores using rider replacement.

"The first rider who instantly came to mind was Liam Carr. I got in touch with him and he instantly jumped at the chance.

"The way Berwick have set their side up this season, it's been very tough for him in the main body of their team.

"But hopefully now, dropping back down to the National League will do him the world of good and I have no doubt whatsoever that he'll be the perfect addition to our squad."

Carr guested for the Brummies in 2016 and says he was impressed by the professionalism of the club.

"Everything about them was great and it's going to be brilliant to be a part of the club on a more regular basis now," Carr said.

"If I was going to come back to the National League, Birmingham would always have been the ideal side for me so I'm very happy with the move.

"I really want to come in and make an impression at Birmingham and with the team they've already got, I'm hoping I can come in and help them to some more success."
