MILDENHALL 37 BRUMMIES 52

Sunday May 15, 2016
BIRMINGHAM battled to a 52-37 win over Mildenhall at West Row to extend their unbeaten run to 10 meetings.

The Surestop Brummies were forced to dig deep in a tight encounter with the Fen Tigers before coming on strong to secure all four National League points.

It was another tremendous all-around team performance from the Perry Barr outfit as they completed a superb week having comfortably won at King’s Lynn on Wednesday.

Team manager Graham Drury was once again full of praise for his young side as they saw their determined efforts rewarded with another well-deserved victory.

Drury said: “I think it knocked the stuffing out of Mildenhall when they realised Jon Armstrong wouldn’t be riding, because he is the heartbeat of their team.

“I said to the boys beforehand that we needed to capitalise upon their misfortune, and we managed to do that.

“It was a tough start for us, but, as I keep saying after every meeting, all the riders contributed with valuable points.

“We knew what we needed to do, we got the job done and we know head into another difficult match on Wednesday against Belle Vue with confidence sky high after 10 meetings unbeaten.”

No.1 Zach Wajtknecht starred for the visitors, reeling off four successive race wins in his opening four rides before being cruelly denied a maximum in the final race.

He was involved in three 5-1s, twice being partnered by the impressive Danyon Hume before joining forces with skipper Tom Perry in heat 13 to seal all four points.

Perry and Hume both impressed to earn paid double figures, whilst Darryl Ritchings and Tom Bacon put in solid showings in the middle order.

Reserve duo Jack Smith and Jack Parkinson-Blackburn also recovered from a nightmare start as they conceded a 5-0 in heat two to bag vital contributions.

The Brummies will be back in action at Perry Barr on Wednesday (7.30) as they look to maintain their fine run of form as they host Belle Vue.
