BRUMMIES 45 KENT 45

Wednesday May 04, 2016
BIRMINGHAM maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard fought 45-45 draw at home to Kent.

It was a closely contested thriller at Perry Barr with no more than two points separating the sides throughout the meeting.

Surestop Brummies boss Graham Drury had no complaints about the result and was keen to focus on the positives.

"A draw was totally the fair result tonight, there's no doubt about that whatsoever," Drury said.

"Two evenly matched teams with some top quality riders and what a meeting they put on for the supporters on the terraces.

"That was an outstanding advert for National League speedway and the tension throughout created a great atmosphere.

"Credit to Kent for their superb efforts - I think both teams fully deserve to continue their unbeaten runs after that.

"The track caught us out a little bit tonight but all seven of our riders can learn a lot from that going to King's Lynn next Wednesday."

Darryl Ritchings top scored for the Brummies with two crucial rides in the closing stages. A 5-1 victory in heat 14 and a second place to split the Kent duo of Luke Bowen and Danny Ayres ultimately rescued the league point for the Brummies on another top night for the Wiltshire racer.

Jack Parkinson-Blackburn bagged paid double figures for the seventh time in eight meetings to secure the Ductair Electrics Ltd Rider of the Night.

Tom Perry and Zach Wajtknecht endured a night of up and down outings while Danyon Hume and Tom Bacon chipped in with important contributions in the middle order.

It was another tough meeting for reserve Jack Smith but he will be keen to bounce back again when the Brummies travel to King's Lynn next Wednesday.

BIRMINGHAM 45: Darryl Ritchings 10+2, Jack P Blackburn 8+2, Tom Perry 8, Zach Wajtknecht 7, Danyon Hume 6+2, Tom Bacon 6, Jack Smith 0.

KENT 45: Luke Bowen 14, Danny Ayres 12, James Shanes 8, Jack Thomas 6, Luke Clifton 2+2, David Mason 2+1, Danno Verge 1.
