BRUMMIES SLIP UP AT OWLERTON

Friday August 31, 2007
BIRMINGHAM suffered a 57-36 defeat at Sheffield in their latest Premier League outing.

The Brummies were almost a two-man team with Jason Lyons (13) and Ben Powell (10) flying the flag at a track which is always difficult for away teams.

And yet hopes were high for the Brummies at one stage after Sheffield lost both Andre Compton and James Cockle in a crash in heat 5. Henning Bager made a great start but collided with home skipper Compton and Cockle couldn't avoid his partner.

A long delay followed and fans were worried about Compton - but thankfully it appears he has suffered nothing more than bad bruising and possible concussion.

Sheffield staged a late rally to win the meeting and it was a rare occasion where Birmingham failed to even gain the aggregate bonus point.

They are, however, still very much in the frame for a play-off place and they face Edinburgh at Perry Barr next Wednesday in their next home meeting.

SHEFFIELD: P. Cooper 17+2, R. Ashworth 14+1, B. Wilson 11+2, J. Parsons 10+1, J. Cockle 2+1, A. Compton 2, B. Hopwood 1.
BIRMINGHAM: J. Lyons 13, B. Powell 10, H. Moller 4+1, M. Hauzinger 4, L. Smart 3+2, H. Bager 2+1.
