WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

BIRMINGHAM are the new Champions of the National League after a 47-42 win at Mildenhall.

The Surestop Brummies fought back from eight-points down to pick up the victory they needed to secure the club's first league title for 40 years.

Team manager Graham Drury said: "That win means everything to everyone connected to Birmingham Speedway and I can't tell you how happy I am.

"We got off to a slow start and it's ironic that we did what we've done for most of the season - turned things around mid-meeting and staged a late comeback.

"Birmingham Speedway never do anything the easy way and we've certainly left our supporters sweating again this year.

"We hit a bit of a sticky patch, but we've performed when it's mattered most and I'm absolutely delighted for everyone at this fantastic club to say the words: 'Birmingham Speedway are League Champions!"

Zach Wajtknecht picked up four race wins and sealed the title for the Brummies in heat 14 on another breathtaking display from the 17-year-old.

Adam Ellis dropped just two-points on his way to another double figure score while captain Tom Perry chipped in with paid-nine on one of his least favoured tracks.

Sam Chapman recovered from a tough start to combine in two meeting changing 5-1 maximum heat advantages with Wajtknecht on another much improved performance.

Guests Jack Smith and Tyler Govier played a crucial role at reserve while Adam Kirby once again rode through the pain barrier and deserves more points for his efforts.

MILDENHALL 42: Dan Halsey 10, Connor Coles 9+2, Tom Bacon 8, Luke Ruddick 6, Jack Kingston 5+1, Connor Mountain 4+2, Nick Laurence 0.

BIRMINGHAM 47: Zach Wajtknecht 12, Adam Ellis 10, Tom Perry 8+1, Sam Chapman 7+2, Jack Smith 5+1, Tyler Govier 4+1, Adam Kirby 1+1.
