RYE HOUSE 49 BRUMMIES 44

Saturday July 25, 2015
BIRMINGHAM suffered their first league defeat of the season after slipping to a 49-44 loss at Rye House.

The result means the Surestop Brummies’ remarkable run of 11 successive league victories sadly came to an end at Hoddesdon.

The Perry Barr outfit struggled in the opening half of the meeting and found themselves 12-points down after eight races. But a tactical ride win from Josh Bates in heat nine, sparked some life into the Brummies who fought valiantly from there-on-in to snatch what could be a vital, consolation league point.

Birmingham team manager Graham Drury said: “It was always going to be a tough match-up and even before the meeting I’d have taken one point away from tonight’s meeting. But when you consider the situation we found ourselves in at the half-way stage, I’m over the moon to be coming away with anything in the end.

“Realistically we were going to lose a meeting at some point and fair play to Rye House, they rode out of their skin and fully deserved to be the first team to beat us this year.

“It was another dramatic meeting and both sets of riders did the National League proud once again.

“We will re-focus quickly and all I can say now is, ‘watch out King’s Lynn!’”

The Brummies spearhead of Adam Ellis and Bates both put in classy performances at No’s 1 and 5 to joint top score for the league leaders who are now 15-points clear with six meetings remaining.

Sam Chapman, Adam Kirby and Zach Wajtknecht all had up-and-down nights, but their points were crucial in securing another league point for the Brummies while Alex Wilson and Sean Phillips both endured tough nights.

The Brummies will look to return to winning ways when they host King’s Lynn at Perry Barr this Wednesday (July 29, 7.30).
