KING'S LYNN 60 BRUMMIES 32

Thursday June 05, 2014
SKIPPER Danny King and reserve Simon Lambert provided the main bright spots for Birmingham in their 32-60 defeat at Elite League leaders King’s Lynn on Thursday.

The Selco Brummies were fielding a weakened side against the best team in the division by a distance so far in 2014, and a massive upset victory was never on the cards.

King, though, kept up his fine run after a tough start to the campaign with a competitive showing against the big guns in the powerhouse Stars team.

The Brummies captain was just edged out by Rory Schlein when on a tactical ride in Heat 6 but took victory over the Australian two races later, with Birmingham working hard to restrict the home side midway through the meeting.

Lambert, looking much happier since his recent change of machinery, achieved the notable distinction of a win over Lewis Kerr in Heat 9 – the first time in five home matches that the Stars rider had been beaten in a reserves’ race.

There were slim pickings, though, for the rest of the Brummies team although Nico Covatti partnered King to a 3-3 ahead of Grand Prix star Kenenth Bjerre in Heat 11.

But four 5-1s to the home side in the last six races saw them ruthlessly extend their lead, with second-string Nicklas Porsing underlining their remarkable strength in depth by racing to a 15-point maximum.

KING’S LYNN 60: Nicklas Porsing 15, Rory Schlein 12+2, Lewis Kerr 9+2, Kenneth Bjerre 8+1, Niels-Kristian Iversen 7+2, Robert Lambert 5+1, Lewis Rose 4.
BIRMINGHAM 32: Danny King 13, Simon Lambert 7+1, Nico Covatti 5+1, Thomas Jorgensen 4+1, Ben Barker 3+1, Dan Halsey 0, Bartosz Zmarzlik r/r.
