BRUMMIES 31 SWINDON 23, ABANDONED

Monday June 02, 2014
BIRMINGHAM went within one race of moving off the foot of the Elite League table against Swindon - but rain was the winner.

Jack Lee's side were in a handy 31-23 lead after nine races - and if they had managed one more outing they would have won.

Birmingham owner Alan Phillips was clearly frustrated after the meeting and was reluctant to go into great detail about his thoughts.

He said: "I'm not going to say too much because I will get myself in trouble.

"But I really do believe we could have got 10 races in before it was abandoned and I'm obviously disappointed. The win would have been well deserved, we were the better side."

Skipper Danny King was in stunning form and romped to three straight wins in front of Great Britain boss Alun Rossiter - and Daniel Nermark was also unbeaten.

Said King: "The way we're thinking is that there was a 20 minute break where we could have got a few more heats in but we'll just have to do it again."

New signing Bartosz Zmarzlik struggled in his opening ride but came good with a win in his second outing.

BIRMINGHAM 31: Danny King 9, Daniel Nermark 6, Paul Starke 5+1, Simon Lambert 3+2, Bartosz Zmarzlik 3, Nico Covatti 3, Ben Barker 2+1.
SWINDON 23: Steve Worrall 6, Simon Gustafsson 5+2, Peter Kildemand 4, Nick Morris 3+1, Dakota North 3, Troy Batchelor 2, Nathan Greaves 0.
