BELLE VUE 51 BRUMMIES 39

Monday May 19, 2014
BRAVE Birmingham pushed Belle Vue hard in their 51-39 defeat at the hands of the Aces in Manchester.

The Selco Brummies could have pinched a consolation point with the right result in Heat 15 - but they suffered a 5-1 reversal after a gutsy display.

Paul Starke was the top scorer for Birmingham with a fine display at reserve - including some notable scalps.

And Swindon star Nick Morris deserves credit for his efforts as a guest replacement for Adam Skornicki who is out with a leg injury.

Skipper Danny King said: "It was a good effort by the lads but frustrating at the same time because a couple of us should have scored better, including myself.

"We have to take the positives from this meeting and move forward from here."

King was excluded in heat eight after clipping team-mate Daniel Nermark - an incident which left both men on the deck but thankfully unscathed. The Swede couldn’t prevent a 5-1 in the re-run, the first of three Belle Vue advantages in four races.

That powerful blast left the Brummies 10 points adrift and it looked all over when Nermark was excluded for sending Stefan Nielsen crashing in heat 12

But Starke brilliantly won the re-run before Morris grabbed his second success of the night in a heat 13 deadlock.

Covatti and Starke then secured a 4-2 in the re-run of heat 14 after Nielsen had crashed out of the lead in the initial staging, but there was no fairytale finish.

BELLE VUE: Scott Nicholls 13+1, Craig Cook 11+2, Stefan Nielsen 8, Richie Worrall 7+1, Matej Zagar 6+2, Michael Palm Toft 5+1, Max Clegg (guest) 1.

BIRMINGHAM: Paul Starke 9, Ben Barker 7+1, Nick Morris (guest) 7, Nico Covatti 6, Danny King 4, Daniel Nermark 4, Simon Lambert 2+1.
