BIRMINGHAM have brought back hugely popular Argentinian ace Nico Covatti to replace Edward Kennett for Wednesday’s Elite League clash with Wolverhampton at Perry Barr.

Covatti was an integral part of the Selco Brummies side which finished top of the Elite League table for the first time in their history last season.

He was on a fine run of form until he sustained a badly broken wrist when riding as a wildcard in the Italian Grand Prix.

Kennett, meanwhile, will focus on his Premier League duties with Rye House after a poor run of form in Birmingham colours.

Selco Brummies owner Alan Phillips said: “I’d like to thank Ed, there are no hard feelings, it’s just one of those moves which haven’t worked out for whatever reason. He’s actually a nice lad and we had a chat a couple of weeks ago knowing this could happen.

“It’s a delight to welcome back Nico, we all know how popular he is with the supporters and I’m sure he will get a great welcome on Wednesday against Wolverhampton.”

Wednesday’s meeting sees the visit of the reigning world champion Tai Woffinden, who has raised the profile of the sport since winning the ultimate prize in Poland six-months ago.

BIRMINGHAM: Adam Skornicki, Daniel Nermark, Danny King, Nico Covatti, Ben Barker, Paul Starke, Simon Lambert.

WOLVERHAMPTON: Tai Woffinden, Jacob Thorssell, Ricky Wells, Ty Proctor, Piotr Pawlicki, Joe Jacobs, Ashley Morris.
