WOLVERHAMPTON 58 BRUMMIES 35

Monday March 24, 2014
BIRMINGHAM saw their Elite League campaign get off to a disappointing start as they went down to a 58-35 defeat at the hands of neighbours Wolverhampton.

A slow opening left the Selco Brummies with a mountain to climb at Monmore Green - and they were never able to recover.

And new team manager Jack Lee was unable to hide his frustrations after a disappointing display from his side.

Said Lee: "It's the first meeting of the season for all the boys and like everyone else I was expecting a better performance than we got.

"It's definitely not the start we were looking for but we've just got to put it behind us now and make sure we do a much better job against Belle Vue on Wednesday."

Experienced duo Daniel Nermark and Adam Skornicki provided dogged resistance as they returned to their former club - whilst Ben Barker provided arguably the highlight of the Brummies' evening with a tactical ride win in heat eight.

Yet his victory did not spark the comeback the visitors would have liked with Danny King and Eddie Kennett both struggling to make an impression against their powerful opponents.

Reserve duo Paul Starke and Simon Lambert did show some encouraging signs as they made their top flight debuts - yet it was largely a night to forget for the Perry Barr outfit.

The Brummies will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Belle Vue aiming to bag their first points of the season.

WOLVERHAMPTON 58: Tai Woffinden 15, Piotr Pawlicki 12+3, Ricky Wells 9+1, Jacob Thorssell 8+2, Joe Jacobs 7+1, Ty Proctor 5+1, Ashley Morris 2.

BIRMINGHAM 35: Ben Barker 8, Daniel Nermark 7+1, Adam Skornicki 6, Danny King 5, Paul Starke 4, Simon Lambert 3, Edward Kennett 2.
