BRUMMIES ARE STOKED UP!

Wednesday July 11, 2007
CAPTAIN Jason Lyons made a triumphant return to Perry Barr with a faultless 15-point maximum as the Brummies fought off an enthusiastic Stoke challenge in an entertaining local derby.

Lyons, who returned to Australia last week for his father's funeral, was in unstoppable form as he romped to five straight wins to help see off the Potters.

And promoter Graham Drury also made an astute choice of guest in Tomas Suchanek when new reserve Manuel Hauzinger was forced to pull out with a foot injury.

Suchanek scored paid 13 and picked up important points late in the meeting when the Potters threatened a comeback.

Brummies were 12 points up when Suchanek and Ulrich Ostergaard both overtook a wide-riding Lee Complin for a 5-1 in Heat 10, but

Stoke hit back with the lively Ben Barker winning a tactical ride for double points in the next race and being followed home by guest team-mate Krzysztof Stojanowski.

Suchanek hunted down Barrie Evans for a third-place point in Heat 12, and after the Potters' Rusty Harrison had suffered mechanical trouble for a second time in the next race, the Brummies made the match safe with Suchanek's victory over Lee Complin in Heat 14.

Top two Lyons and Ostergaard put the seal on proceedings with a 5-1 in the last heat, Lyons leading from the tapes and Ostergaard repelling the strong challenge of Claus Vissing, who subsequently fell.

BIRMINGHAM: Jason Lyons 15, Ulrich Ostergaard 12+1, Tomas Suchanek 12+1, Emiliano Sanchez 6+1, Ben Powell 4+1, Lee Smart 2+1, Jon Armstrong 2+1.

STOKE: Ben Barker 13, Krzysztof Stojanowski 6+2, Claus Vissing 6+1, Lee Complin 6, Rusty Harrison 4, Barrie Evans 3, Nick Simmons 2.
