KING'S LYNN 42 BRUMMIES 48

Wednesday September 05, 2012
BIRMINGHAM edged King's Lynn 48-42 at the Norfolk Arena to take three Elite League points and give their play-off hopes a major boost.

The sides could not be separated after twelve races, but heat leaders Bjarne Pedersen and Sebastian Ulamek combined for a vital Heat 13 maximum before Martin Smolinski sensationally fought his way to a crucial Heat 14 victory.

Stars man Maciej Janowski was forced to start the decisive final race off a 15-metre handicap after blasting through the tapes at the first time of asking – and Pedersen and Ulamek capitalised on that slice of luck to wrap up the win with a 4-2.

It was a tremendous display from the battling Selco Brummies – and they could count themselves unlucky to have missed out on four league points after Ben Barker marginally missed out on a third place in Heat 14.

The performances of GP star Pedersen and veteran Ulamek were absolutely pivotal for the Perry Barr side – with both putting recent problems with consistency behind them to add double-figures.

Skipper Danny King bounced back from a poor start to back them up excellently – and Smolinski put his disappointing form to one side to bolster the lower order with a critical paid 8 contribution.

Brummies co-team boss Phil Morris said: “It was a great night tonight. I am still disappointed we didn’t get the extra point but I am happy we got three-points on the board.

“I think this opens a few people’s eyes and shows that we are a force to be reckoned with and we can make the play-offs.”

KING’S LYNN 42: Chris Harris 9+1, Maciej Janowski 9, Kevin Wolbert 9, Mads Korneliussen 6+2, Daniel Nermark 4, Mateusz Szczepaniak 4, Ulrich Ostergaard 1+1.

SELCO BRUMMIES 48: Bjarne Pedersen 13+1, Sebastian Ulamek 11, Daniel King 8, Martin Smolinski 6+2, Ben Barker 4+2, Josh Auty 4+1, Nicolas Covatti 2.
