JASON'S BRAVERY BOOSTS BRUMMIES

Thursday June 28, 2007
BIRMINGHAM skipper Jason Lyons put personal heartache to one side to inspire the Brummies to a 49-41 win over Somerset at Perry Barr on Wednesday.

Lyons was given the shattering news of his father's death in Australia just hours before the meeting and was given the option of missing out - but he rode superbly and rattled up a 10-point haul to help Graham Drury's men to more vital league points.

And reserve Lee Smart was in matchwinning form with his best ever Premier League performance against his former club. He notched four racewins with his spectacular style to top score for the Mercom-backed Brummies with 13.

Brummies always seemed to hold the upper hand on an entertaining night for a bumper crowd, but the Rebels were good value for their points.

And in a special matchrace after the main event, legendary Brummies brothers Alan and Andy Grahame drew 1-1 but rolled back the years with their classy riding style.

Birmingham Speedway would like to offer their sincere condolences to Jason Lyons on the passing of his father and he will now travel back to his home country where he will be for the next week.

BIRMINGHAM: Lee Smart 13, Ulrich Ostargaard 11, Jason Lyons 10, Ben Powell 7+2, Emiliano Sanchez 4+2, Aidan Collins 2+1, Jon Armstrong 2.
SOMERSET: Magnus Zetterstrom 14, Emil Kramer 8, Simon Walker 6+1, Jordon Frampton 5, Ritchie Hawkins 3+1, Stephan Katt 3, Danny Warwick 1.
