BELLE VUE 47 BRUMMIES 43

Monday August 06, 2012
BIRMINGHAM had to console themselves with a solitary Elite League point from their Monday night trip to Belle Vue.

The battling Selco Brummies lost the services of Danny King mid-meeting who was still feeling the effects of last week’s injuries, but trailing by just two-points still managed to take the match to a last race decider.

But there was to be no late heroics as the Aces finished the night strongly and Brummies were left wondering if they had missed an opportunity for a valuable away win or draw.

Martin Smolinski did have his best night of the season with 13+1 and Bjarne Pedersen contributed with 11, but the loss of King after his third ride probably proved costly.

They looked good early on as King and Ben Barker put them four-points up with a 5-1 in Heat 3, but the home side eventually levelled up the scores with a Rory Schlein and Craig Cook maximum in Heat 6.

Belle Vue then went ahead by four-points in Heat 10 when the impressive Schlein and Cook pairing just managed to keep the Brummies pair of Barker and King at bay.

Gjedde and Dryml then stretched the lead to six with a 4-2 in Heat 11, but the next race had to be re-run when Renat Gafurov fell when Brummies duo Smolinski and Kyle Newman were on a 5-1. In the re-start Artur Mroczka managed to split the visitors - with the resulting 4-2 cutting the home advantage to 38-34.

Smolinski and Barker produced a 4-2 in Heat 14 to take the meeting to a last race decider, but Schlein and Cook stood firm for the match winning 4-2.

BELLE VUE 47: Craig Cook 11+1, Rory Schlein 11+1, Charlie Gjedde 8, Artur Mroczka 6, Patrick Hougaard 5, Ales Dryml 3+1, Renat Gafurov 3.

SELCO BRUMMIES 43: Martin Smolinski 13+1, Bjarne Pedersen 11, Ben Barker 6+1, Daniel King 4+1, Kyle Newman 4, Josh Auty 3+1, Sebastian Ulamek 1+1.
