BRUMMIES 36 POOLE 54

Thursday May 24, 2012
ELITE League title favourites Poole gave a clear demonstration of their 2012 credentials with an 18-point win at Perry Barr on Thursday.

The Selco Brummies were limited to just three heat winners on their home circuit as maximum man Darcy Ward and Chris Holder dominated at the top of the Pirates’ order, with the other members of their side also chipping in.

Brummies were up against it from the early stages when the Pirates romped into a 17-7 lead after four races, the home side not helped by a bike failure for Josh Auty at the start of Heat 4.

Ben Barker rode well to defeat Holder in Heat 5, and Martin Smolinski won the next race in a blanket finish with Adrian Miedzinski – but the German was unlucky to suffer mechanical problems in Heat 8 when the Brummies were looking to take further points back.

Ward had gone from third to first in one move in Heat 7, having time to celebrate the move whilst still racing, and the Australian also seemed to take exception to Smolinski in a close battle in Heat 10.

But there was high drama in Heat 11 when the chequered flag was shown one lap early in Heat 11 with Sebastian Ulamek leading Chris Holder, and after much conjecture a re-run was ordered and Holder duly took victory for Poole.

They were eight points up at that stage but secured the win on the night when Holder and Adrian Miedzinski turned a 1-5 into a 5-1 in no time at all off the second bend in Heat 13, heading home a quiet Bjarne Pedersen and Ulamek.

Even the Pirates’ lesser-lights got in on the act with Dennis Andersson winning Heat 14 and Kyle Howarth holding off Barker for third place – and Ward and Holder then dominated the final raceas Ward completed his maximum.

Auty said: “Hats off to Poole, they are a class act. We tried our best but I don’t think we had the luck of the draw with certain decisions.

“You win some and lose some but the challenge is now to pick ourselves up from quite a bad home defeat. I’ll stand up and be counted, I messed up in my first two rides, and once things like that go against you it’s tough to pull any points back against a side like Poole.”

SELCO BRUMMIES 36: Danny King 9, Martin Smolinski 6+1, Josh Auty 6+1, Sebastian Ulamek 5+1, Bjarne Pedersen 4, Ben Barker 4, Tomasz Piszcz 2.

POOLE 54: Darcy Ward 15, Chris Holder 13+1, Adrian Miedzinski 9+1, Kyle Howarth 6, Ricky Kling 5, Dennis Andersson 4, Henning Bager 2+1.
