COVENTRY 56 BRUMMIES 39

Friday March 23, 2012
DEPLETED Birmingham suffered a 56-39 Midland League defeat at Coventry on Friday.

The Selco Brummies could find no answer to a powerhouse Bees side, who had Chris Harris and Scott Nicholls back after spending last season on loan to Belle Vue and Swindon respectively.

Both Ben Barker and Josh Auty, who have started the season superbly, were unavailable for Brummies boss Graham Drury at their former club because of their Premier League duties with Plymouth and Scunthorpe respectively – and this proved costly.

Danny King, who is desperate to force his way back into the Great Britain World Cup squad, was impressive with 16 for the visitors and Bjarne Pedersen notched 11+1.

Said Drury: “Coventry were the better side and I’m not going to make any excuses, we just have to take this on the chin and move on to Wolverhampton on Monday.

“It’s obvious where we were weakened and we will be working hard to bounce back. I’d like to congratulate Coventry because they were very impressive, but there’s a long season ahead.”

COVENTRY: Scott Nicholls 13+2, Aaron Summers 11+1, Henning Bager 9+1, Edward Kennett 9, Chris Harris 7+2, Adam Roynon 7, Kenni Larsen R/R.

SELCO BIRMINGHAM BRUMMIES: Danny King 16, Bjarne Pedersen 11+1, Chris Mills 5, Sebastian Ulamek 3, Magnus Karlsson 2+2, Martin Smolinski 1+1, Simon Lambert 1.
