LAKESIDE 51 BRUMMIES 42

Friday September 02, 2011
BIRMINGHAM were left frustratingly short of a point on their travels when going down to a 51-42 Elite League defeat at Lakeside on Friday evening.

The Hammers always looked the likely winners after taking the lead as early as Heat 3, but the Brummies stayed in touch and took the battle for the bonus league point to the very last race.

Davey Watt proved to be a decent choice of guest for the suspended Krzystof Kasprzak scoring 10+1, and Daniel Nermark rode well for his 11-point haul, which included a tactical ride victory as they fought back from trailing 30-18 after eight races.

Lakeside looked to be heading to another comfortable home win, but Nermark’s double-point defeat of Kim Nilsson and Ty Proctor in Heat 9 saw Graham Drury’s men stage a mini fightback.

Aaron Summers and Danny King then gave them an even better chance of getting something from the match with a stunning 5-1 in Heat 12, which left them trailing by just five-points (40-35) with three races to go.

Lakeside responded with a 4-2 in heat 13, but with Summers winning a shared penultimate race for the visitors there was still something to race for in Heat 15.

But sadly the Brummies came up just short of their target as the home duo of Lee Richardson and Jonas Davidsson raced to a last-gasp 4-2 over Watt and King.

LAKESIDE 51: Lee Richardson 13, Jonas Davidsson 11, Peter Ljung 9+2, Kim Nilsson 7+1, Ty Proctor 6+2, Robert Mear 5+1, Piotr Swiderski R/R

BIRMINGHAM 42: Daniel Nermark 11, Davey Watt 10+1, Aaron Summers 10, Danny King 7+1, Claus Vissing 3+1, Ulrich Ostergaard 1, Ales Dryml 0
