BRUMMIES 52 BELLE VUE 43

Monday August 15, 2011
BIRMINGHAM kept up their impressive recent run of form with a comfortable home win over Belle Vue to add three more points to their Elite League total.

It was the Brummies’ third consecutive maximum-points haul at Perry Barr, and the final score does not do justice to the way an incident-packed meeting went, because Graham Drury’s side were far superior for much of the night.

Belle Vue, for whom Rory Schlein underlined his status as one of the best visiting riders to the venue, carried a long tail and only got to within nine points on the night thanks to an 8-1 in Heat 11 and then a 5-1 in Heat 15 when the match was already won by the Brummies.

Skipper Daniel King was in superb form once again, being unbeaten until the last race and twice combining with Ben Barker for 5-1s in what was a powerful combination – the second of them coming against GP star Chris Harris.

Darcy Ward proved to be a fine guest for the injured Krzystzof Kasprzak at No.1, and Barker produced one of the moves of the night to squeeze around Charlie Gjedde in Heat 14 which made sure of maximum points for the Brummies.

The only man to miss out was Claus Vissing who fell in two of his three rides, and also suffered a penalty for breaking the tapes on a night of multiple re-starts, but there was no doubt the Brummies deserved their win.

Drury said: “I’m delighted with that performance, everyone was giving 100 per cent throughout and that’s all I can ask for.

“The spirit in the camp is good and things have really come together in the last three weeks. Now we have to see what we can do away from home, and our last three away performances have been good too, so we’re pleased to be finishing the league season strongly.”

BIRMINGHAM 52: Daniel King 11+2, Ben Barker 10, Darcy Ward 10, Daniel Nermark 7+1, Ulrich Ostergaard 7+1, Ales Dryml 6+2, Claus Vissing 1.

BELLE VUE 43: Rory Schlein 17, Chris Harris 8, Patrick Hougaard 7+2, Charlie Gjedde 7, Lukasz Jankowski 2, Craig Cook 1, Ricky Kling 1.
